What is Confirmation?

From the Small Catechism: Confirmation is a public rite of the church preceded by a period of instruction in which baptized Christians learn about the confession, life, and mission of the Christian Church.

In our church it is a two year period of study where our 7th and 8th graders meet with Pastor Lutjens to study the ‘Six Chief Parts’ of the Catechism: The 10 Commandments, The Apostles’ Creed, The Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Confession, and The Lord’s Supper.

This year our students are taking an overview of the Biblical Story, from Genesis to Revelation.  They will be able to explain the major parts of scripture, describe Law and Gospel, and begin to learn the Small Catechism by Dr. Martin Luther.

Next year the Students will do a more in-depth study of the Catechism, tying their studies back to the Scripture which they read the previous year.
