What is Confirmation?

From the Small Catechism: Confirmation is a public rite of the church preceded by a period of instruction in which baptized Christians learn about the confession, life, and mission of the Christian Church.

In our church it is typically a two year period of study where our 7th and 8th graders meet with Pastor Lutjens to study the ‘Six Chief Parts’ of the Catechism: The 10 Commandments, The Apostles’ Creed, The Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Confession, and The Lord’s Supper.

This year our students are meeting on on Sunday afternoons, 1-3pm in Pastor’s office. They are doing a survey of the contents of Scripture before they start working on the Catechism itself. The goal is by the end of the program they will be able to explain the major parts of scripture, describe Law and Gospel, and be able to recite the Small Catechism by Dr. Martin Luther.
